Spam & Sweet Potato Hash Patties Recipe
Perhaps we all have a salty tooth in Hawaii and that’s why Spam is so popular. This is a take from our Corned Beef Hash Patties, using grated Spam and Okinawan sweet potatoes.
Ingredients
- 1 (12 oz.) can Spam
- 2 large Okinawan sweet potatoes boiled, peeled
- 1/2 small onion chopped
- 1/4 c. green onion chopped
- 1/4 c. fresh cilantro chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 large egg beaten
- 2 slices day-old bread crumbled
- 2 TB catsup
- 1 TB Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
- oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, coarsely mash Spam and potatoes with a potato masher.
- Add remaining ingredients; blending well.
- Shape into desired size patties.
- In a skillet over medium heat; brown in oil.
- Great for your okazu picnic.
- Makes 14-16 small patties.
Variation:
- Shape into 1-inch balls; coat with either undagi or tempura batter; deep fry until golden.
