Garlic Shrimp Poke

Must Try

This Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp Poke is a bold, flavorful island favorite that combines tender cooked shrimp with plenty of garlic, sweet onions, sesame seeds, and a touch of heat from chili flakes. Inspired by classic local-style poke found in Hawaii, this dish is perfect as an appetizer, party platter, or served over rice for a satisfying meal.

Unlike traditional raw fish poke, this shrimp version is quick, approachable, and packed with savory umami flavors. The minced garlic and vegetable oil create a rich base, while green onions and toasted sesame seeds add freshness and texture. It’s an easy recipe that comes together in minutes—ideal for busy days or last-minute gatherings.

Serve this garlic shrimp poke alongside steamed rice, seaweed salad, or other island-style dishes for a complete Hawaiian spread. If you enjoy local Hawaiian recipes, check this our Island-Style Beef Tomato recipe.

Garlic Shrimp Poke

My favorite right now is the Garlic Shrimp Poke. It’s a cooked shrimp, tossed with sesame seeds, onion, red chili pepper flakes and garlic.
It's a delicious meal in and of itself, slicked with the nuttiness of vegetable oil, permeated with the garlic, but even more perfect eaten cold on top of warm steamed white rice.
And it's also the thing that finally merges two distinct Hawaiian delicacies into one dish.
