I remember growing up and buying boiled peanuts from Lau Poo market in Pauoa valley. I used to love walking into the aroma-filled store on Saturday mornings. You could almost taste the boiled peanuts and manapua.
I’m not really sure how and when boiled peanuts made its way to hawaii, but they are very simillar to the boiled peanuts that you find in the South.
I also use Ono Hawaiian Seasoning instead of just plain Hawaiian Salt. It adds a subtle layer of flavor…I guess that’s why they call it Ono! You can order it online or find it at most grocery stores.

Thanks for posting this. I remember having these in Hawaii at all the football games!
They are the best. I have a question. How long do these keep in the fridge? I’m the only one who eats them so I may have to make only half a recipe
